Invention Convention
Driving Question: How do inventors help solve world problems?
Project Summary: The third graders will become entrepreneurs by creating inventions that will solve real world problems. Inventors will display their products to launch their business ideas. Students will use this real-life application as they learn about economics.

Standards:
SS3E3 Give examples of interdependence and trade and explain the benefits of voluntary exchange. a. Describe the interdependence of consumers and producers. b. Describe how goods and services are allocated by price in the marketplace. c. Explain that some goods are made locally, some elsewhere in the country, and some in other countries. d. Explain that most countries create their own currency for use as money. SS3E4 Explain the concept of opportunity cost as it relates to making a saving or spending choice. Specials Connections

Entry Event
Mr. Bilderback, owner of InMotion Air, talked with students about being an entrepreneur.

Research & Inquiry
Students researched to help plan for their inventions. They made a model of their product using inquiry skills to develop and improve their invention.
Technology Integration
Each class learned how to use Touchcast Studio and practiced with Green Screens in the PBL Classroom. They used what they learned to plan their commercial scripts and returned in small groups to record.

Authentic Audience
Students displayed their products for the Invention Convention in the cafeteria. Second grade students visited and learned about the inventions. Three fifth grade reporters interviewed the inventors during the convention. The interviews and some commercials are going to be shown on the Cheetah Network News. QR Codes are displayed in the hall for guest to view commercials and jingles.
