Kindergarten PBL Unit
Our Town
Project Summary - Students will investigate and learn about community helpers. Local workers will visit our school and inform our students about their occupation. Students will choose their favorite workers. They will create individual QR Codes which will link to an audio presentation that will describe their community workers. They will illustrate and label important roles the community helpers play and how in turn they benefit their own lives. They will identify with their community helpers by dressing the part and with oral presentation. We will bridge the art and music special areas to integrate a project to further the students understanding of community workers.
Focus Standards:
SSKCG2 The student will retell stories that illustrate positive character traits and will explain how the people in the stories show the qualities of honesty, patriotism, loyalty, courtesy, respect, truth, pride, self-control, moderation, and accomplishment.
SSKE1 The student will describe the work that people do (police officer, fire fighter, soldier, mail carrier, baker, farmer, doctor, and teacher).
SSKE2 The student will explain that people earn income by exchanging their human resources (physical or mental work) for wages or salaries.
PE Connection - Clean Up Your back Yard/Oscar’s Trashcan
Students act as good citizens in a game of pick-up to clean their teams "yard."
Driving Question: How do community helpers help me?
Project Launch - Community speakers visit each classroom.
